The primary purpose of this seminar is to have students study areas or topics in mathematics that are new to them or that they have seen only superficially in their undergraduate classes. The second and most important objective is to have students do presentations with non-trivial mathematical content. Discussions following presentations, among students and with the instructors, is an important part of the class. We intend to engage student in critical reading, in writing and presenting mathematics. It will be expected that the student exhibit some level of both breath and depth in their work. It is expected that the students will present their work orally every other week, and perhaps prepare a writeup, and give a final presentation.
