Department of Mathematical Sciences
Georgia Southern is in the process of changing every phone number on campus. Eventually, they will all be (912) 478-xxxx. In our department, that change has been
implemented but there are plenty
of web sites that have incorrect numbers. All of the last 4 digits remain the same,
just replace the first 3 by 478 in every instance. Eventually, this rule will work across the entire campus, but not today.

Welcome to the Department of
Mathematical
Sciences at
Georgia Southern
University, the largest university in Southeast Georgia. The department
conducts teaching, scholarship, and service in many areas of
Mathematics,
Statistics,
and Mathematics Education. Our faculty
members pursue research in a wide range of areas, including Algebra,
Analysis,
Approximation Theory, Biomathematics, Differential and
Difference Equations, Education, Geometry, Imaging, Numerical Analysis,
Number Theory, Optimization, Statistics, Topology, etc.
The Math Department offers
two
undergraduate
degrees, the B.S. with a major in Mathematics and the B.S. in
Mathematics, and we offer the M.S. degree with concentrations in
Mathematics and Statistics. Majors
in Mathematics and Statistics learn analytical and computational
skills that prepare them for Graduate studies and help them succeed in
many careers, including Actuarial
Science, Engineering, Computer Programming, Operations
Research,
and many others.
