  • Congratulations to Billur Kaymakcalan on her efforts in bringing the 2011 Southeastern-Atlantic Regional Conference on Differential Equations to our campus.
  • Georgia Southern will host the inaugural Eagle Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (EUMC) on March 6, 2010. Funding for the conference is provided by NSF grant DMS-0846477 through the MAA Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conferences program, http://www.maa.org/RUMC . Jiehua Zhu (Project Director), Hua Wang (Assistant Project Director), Pat Humphrey, David Stone, Yan Wu and Martha Abell submitted the proposal.

  • Mark Hannah and Toby Sanders win the fourth round of the Department Problem Solving Competition.
  • Brittany Cole has been selected for a ten-week Summer 2009 science-focused Internship at NSF in Arlington, VA.
  • 4/1/2009 - During Honors Day Convocation, Lisa Yocco was named Professor of the Year. This award is voted on by Georgia Southern students and the winner is selected from the top five vote getters.
  • The 2009 Outstanding Senior Mathematics Awards were given to Elizabeth Lowe and Mark Hanna.
  • Jie Chen received the 2009 Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
  • James Bland received the 2009 Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award.
  • Mark Hanna scored on the 69'th Putnam Mathematical competition.

  • Professor Christopher Sogge delivers the 2009 Distinguished Lecture.
  • Congratulations to David R. Stone. The Certificate of Meritorius Service is presented for service at the national level or sevice to a section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). David was awarded a Citation of Meritorius Service from the MAA during their national meeting in Washington DC on January 6, 2009.
  • November 6, 2008, Xiezhang Li, Georgia Southern University, presented Tips for learning trigonometry at the Public Lecture.
  • GSU student, Phillip Lorren, wins the Waldemar J. Trjitzinsky Scholarship from the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
  • Sze-Man Ngai recently found out from Matthew Miller, AMS Associate Secretary for the SE Section, that our proposal to hold a meeting of the AMS Southern Section at Georgia Southern University on March 12-13, 2011, has been approved by the Secretariat of the AMS.
  • Joy Darley is a co-PI on a successful NSF - Noyce Grant Proposal to increase the production of high school mathematics and science teachers. The grant totals close to $750,000.
  • Steve Damelin has been named Professor of Computational and Applied Mathematics, University of the Witwatersrand.

  • Cynthia Sikes retires after 30 years of teaching at Georgia Southern. Her family endows a mathematics scholarship in her name.
